Update from Wayne English
Posted on 16. Jan, 2010 by Melanie in Featured, Updates
Back in 1968-70, I was the appliance repairman for office/school and taught Occultism. We always had macrobiotic lunch with Heath & Alan running the kitchen.
I remember when my VW bus, which I used to transport students to and from Palo Alto to PHS, was sabotaged. We found nuts and bolts in the crankcase. PHS helped me to rebuild the engine so we could continue to transport students.
We all had great times at PHS. I later rented a cabin on the creek at Brookdale Lodge with Dale Ockerman before heading to Woodstock Festival in the Green Bus with “Woodstock or Bust” written on the outside in yellow Letters.
I attended the 1997 Reunion. I have lately reconnected with Bruce Brennan (Hippy Gourmet TV Series) with our Super Sonic Samba School from San Diego as we perform in SF Carnival from 2000-2007. I also stay in touch with Kevin Setchko from time to time.
I also have been trying to find old copies of “The Teacher Was The Sea” by Michael S. Kaye, forward by Peter Marin. They are hard to come by. I found three copies over several years, gave one copy to Bruce Brennan’s Haight Ashbury Museum, keeping one copy for myself and have one extra copy for ?.
Is there a central archive?
Robin B. and I have been keeping track of stuff—you can write to us via the contact form on this site, but don’t use the email button on the far right top of the home page. It has some kind of bug and doesn’t work. —Melanie
I also have kept a copy of a PHS Newsletter for which I wrote the poem for the cover but was too shy to accept authorship at the time. It has an astrological flavor to it as I was the Occult teacher at the time.
I am sending a copy to Melanie once I get the fax number to send it to her.
To find out more about me today, visit The Super Sonic Samba School website for pictures of me with my newfound group performing for Street Scene, San Francisco/Ensenada Carnival, Bravo, Del Mar Fairgrounds, performed with Jesse Cook at Humphrey’s by the Bay, and other large and small venues in San Diego and vicinity, including Tijuana and Ensenada all the way to Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Love & Peace, Wayne English

Hey Wayne,
Thanks for the update Wayne. As to a “Central Archive”, we do not have one. Would YOU like to take that on? Do you have room for Pacific stuff if we get it? I don’t expect it to be more than newsletters and related.
Most of the original items we had, were placed for safe keeping at Peninsula School, and somehow, disappeared a few years later. This included all the school records , the seal, etc. It was tragic.

Yes, I think I could do that, help in some small way. My space is limited but I do have a large filing cabinet I already keep momentos, mostly newsletters and things I can file, including The Teacher was the Sea copies and I have a 1″ folder of PHS and related but not much in it. I do have connections of those who might have info. to include in Archive. I would be happy to expand it and perhaps post some of it to webpages somehow -I do not have a good scanner at this time. Count me in as a Archive Resource person with at least 1′ in a filing cabinet for the time being.
Is there no recourse to get Peninsula School to do further search for records? Wayne wayneenglish@yahoo.com

Hey Wayne, Did you find someone to adopt your remaining copy of the Teacher Was the Sea at the Reunion? I did see a copy floating around there.

Yes, I was able to trade the extra copy of “Teacher Was the Sea” at the Reunion, and I expect that was the one floating around. I am sorry, I do not remember the name of the person who got it, but I have it on record in my memorabilia that I returned home with. That Reunion was the best one ever, loved all the music. Wayne
